HEADNOTES West attorney-editors write headnotes for each point of law in a case. The editors base their headnotes on the language of the court, but they also add terms, such as synonyms, acronyms, terms of art and fact-specific legal terminology. For example, the headnotes use legal relationships or status to describe the parties, rather than the parties' names. These enhancements result in more "hits" with your word search. The headnotes also contain hypertext links that quickly take you to the related text in the opinion.
